PRIMARY COORDINATOR
A warm welcome back to school to our Sirius College families and trust that everyone enjoyed a safe and relaxing break and had the opportunity to enjoy some family time together, doing a whole range of fun and interesting things. We have had quite a number of new students enrol this year which is extremely pleasing. A special welcome to our new children and families and congratulations to them on selecting our school as their very important educational setting. 2020 has begun very smoothly and students have settled in well. Just a few friendly reminders:
The Importance of Full Time Attendance
Daily school attendance is important for all children and young people to succeed in education and to ensure they don’t fall behind both socially and academically. It is expected that your child/children will be at school, in class at 8:55am until 3.25pm every day. Students who are late, not only miss out on learning but disrupt the whole class and the teacher who has commenced the day’s program.
Nude Food Lunches
All students are encouraged to bring ‘nude food’ lunches. A nude food lunch has no foil, gladwrap or any other packaging. Please unwrap and throw any rubbish out at home, to help us significantly reduce the amount of rubbish scattered throughout our school. A labelled drink bottle containing water is highly encouraged. Research shows that children learn best when they are well hydrated. Also no chips, chocolates or Nutella allowed at school.
School Uniform
Our Sirius College school uniform should be worn correctly and be in good condition. Please ensure all items of clothing are named. Please be aware that hair which is longer than shoulder length for girls is tied up and hair accessories are school colours only. Jewellery is not part of the school uniform and students may only wear small stud earrings. Shoes should be black only but do not necessarily need to be leather. A slight change to our uniform policy, girls are also allowed to wear shorts from Foundation – Yr 6 during terms 1 and 4.
Picking up kids from school
If you decide to pick your child up from school instead of them travelling on the bus on a particular day, please report to the office first as the bus gets delayed waiting for your child/children to board and also becomes a cause of worry for school staff. All parents picking their children up or dropping them off should park in the parking spaces located at the back near the soccer oval due to a lot of traffic at the front which is unsafe for children.
Sun Smart
Just a reminder that Term 1 is a Sun Smart term. Students are expected to wear their school hat outside at all times. If your child requires a new hat, they may buy it at the school office for $15. We encourage students to apply sunscreen before coming to school. Extra sunscreen is available in the classrooms.
Transportation
All students travelling on the school bus are expected to follow the Code of Conduct for School Bus Travel. Any breach of this code can result in students being suspended from travelling on the bus during the time of suspension.
You should discuss the code with your child so they clearly understand what they should and should not do when travelling on a school bus.
